Service Description

Looking for a couple hours of activities for the kids? EFK Winnipeg is excited to announce the launch of "Science Saturdays", a monthly event for kids interested in trying out our engineering programs. Thanks to our friends at Champlain Community Center for hosting us once again! These afternoons are geared for kids aged 6-11, with optional extensions for kids who need a little extra challenge. Each month is a new theme. FEBRUARY 10: Electrical Engineering - Kids will design their own LED flashlights and build mini working robots that can sweep the floor. MARCH 9: Mechanical Engineering - Kids will build mini catapults to launch candy, and compete to build a vehicle that can protect an egg or water balloon in a joust with another vehicle. APRIL 13: Coding - Kids will work in teams to code a Lego robot to complete challenges. ***Children must be at least 8 years old to join the coding class. MAY 11: Chemical Engineering - Kids will concoct two types of slime, then use their chemical engineering knowledge to create rocket fuel for a mini, indoor rocket launch. JUNE 8: Aerospace Engineering - Kids will build two types of rockets to launch with different types of propellant, preparing both an indoor and an outdoor launch. These afternoons are very much like a half day of camp with Engineering for Kids. Activities take place from 1:15pm-3:45pm, with drop off beginning at 1pm and pick up until 4pm. Kids will gain experience working in teams, working individually, following build instructions, implementing their own designs, and thinking creatively. There will be downtime in between science activities for games and movement. Kids should bring their own nut-free snack and a water bottle, and indoor shoes.
